Great Things are Coming!

My dad was one of the smartest men I’ve ever known. I remember having long conversations with him as a teenager about the medical breakthroughs that were coming. He would tell me what all of the latest trade journals and news magazines reported about how close they were to finding cures and alternative treatments to diseases. He believed that the cures for Cancer, Aids, Alzheimer’s, and Diabetes would be found in my lifetime. And, he was certain that those cures would be discovered in the jungles and the oceans of our planet. Dad died at the age of 66 from uncontrolled diabetes, and complications from cardiovascular disease. A few years later, I lost my mom at the age of 59 to Lung Cancer. Last night, I read an article that announced a promising study for Cancer treatment. It said that they are discovering harmless viruses which may be injected into cancer patients to attack the cancer cells. It also told of a simple eye test that could detect Alzheimer’s in a person 20 years before it reveals its symptoms. We are certainly on the edge of some exciting discoveries in medicine and improvements to our quality of life. These discoveries won’t bring back either of my parents, but they will certainly save the lives of many other children’s parents. I applaud the research and the people who give their heart and souls everyday to this kind of work. At MMT, we support this research whenever we possibly can through donations and fundraisers.
